Pope John Paul II was beatified on Sunday, May 1, 2011 and canonized on April 27, 2014. He was the “Pope of Life.” His example and teachings, especially “Evangelium Vitae” (The Gospel of Life) provide a key foundation for the pro-life movement. Pope John Paul II came to know and bless the ministry of Priests for Life when I worked under him at the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for the Family in the late 1990’s. His teachings provide the basis for the work Priests for Life continues to carry out in the Church.

We praise you for the gift of life, This first and most fundamental gift you give us, And the foundation of all our other rights.
