At a time when the attacks on defenseless babies in the womb intensify and politicians pass laws that give abortionists the legal right to kill the unborn up to the very moment of birth – and in many cases after the child has been born – we need YOU to follow in the footsteps of Pope St. John Paul II and support the fight against abortion. What St. John Paul II wrote in The Vocation and the Mission of the Lay Faithful in the Church and in the World says it all:

“The common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights – for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture – is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition of all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination.” (Emphasis added.)

Unfortunately, your comment that the death penalty and immigration are just as important measures of being “prolife” as abortion give “political cover” to every lawmaker who votes to expand abortion. By this Petition I beg you to issue a clear and definitive statement that repeats Church teaching (and commonsense)that the RIGHT TO LIFE is the fundamental human right and the right upon which all other human rights depend. That’s the kind of leadership the pro-life movement needs. Please, Holy Father, lead us as we fight against the evil of abortion.
