Lord Jesus Christ,
You command us to go into the whole world,
To preach the Gospel to every creature,
And to bring others to practice what you have preached.
As states begin their periods of early voting,
We ask you to awaken your people
And give them the grace to participate in the process
Of electing their leaders.
Lord, we pray today that your people may vote early.
May they see Election Day not simply as a Tuesday in November,
But as the first day of early voting in their state.
Lord, you always teach us to be prepared and vigilant.
You gave us the parable of the wise and foolish virgins.
The foolish ones were not prepared for your unexpected arrival,
Because they had not purchased enough oil for their lamps.
Lord, may we be wise in voting,
And not wait until the last day,
When weather, sickness, car trouble, power outages, long lines, or other factors
May prevent us from voting altogether.
Give us wisdom.
May we not put off our voting duty to tomorrow
If we can do it today.
And may we help others to do likewise.
We pray to you, Lord Jesus, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.
