Lord, as your redeemed People,
We live each day in the spirit of repentance,
Always asking your forgiveness
For any way in which we have offended you
By what we have done
And by what we have failed to do.
Our sins are often sins of omission.
Your word tells us that when someone knows the right thing
But does not do it,
That is a sin.
Lord, we thank you today for the privilege
Of voting to elect our leaders.
This privilege is also a solemn duty.
We pray that every believer will fulfill this duty in this election.
We acknowledge, Lord, that we are responsible
For the consequences that we know will follow
From the choices we freely make.
That includes the choice not to vote.
To fail to vote also has consequences,
Namely, that it helps the candidate who is worse;
It favors the candidate who will do the most harm.
Help your people to vote wisely,
And to understand the consequences of not voting.
Give all your people the strength to do what is right in this election.
