Lord, we give you thanks
For the United States Senate,
Considered the greatest deliberative body
In the world.
We pray for the one hundred men and women
Who serve in these positions of great influence,
And we pray for the elections this year
That will determine one-third of those Senate seats.
Lord, give the voters wisdom
To carefully consider not only the Senator
They want for their state,
But how that choice will affect
The balance of power in the Senate,
What party will control the committees
And the legislative agenda,
Which impacts the entire nation.
Help our fellow citizens keep in mind
The kind of power exercised in the Senate,
With the passage of legislation,
And also the confirmation of federal judges,
Including Supreme Court Justices,
As well as Cabinet members
And other important federal positions.
Lord, bless each candidate for US Senate,
And give us men and women
Who do not seek power,
But only seek You, Your will,
And the good of Your people.
We pray through Christ our Lord, Amen.
