Lord, today is the day
When we pray most intensely
For an outpouring of your Spirit
Upon your people.
Inspire the voters to arise,
Give them wisdom,
And make them persuasive to others.
We pray for the integrity and honesty
Of all our elections today.
Bless all election officials,
Poll workers and poll watchers.
We pray for the victory
Of truth, life, justice and freedom.
Lord, we also pray
That we may give glory to you
For every victory
And that we may trust in you
Despite any loss.
When David lost his child
After he had prayed to save the child’s life
He worshiped you,
Acknowledging that you alone are sovereign
Over all the nations.
We worship you also,
And will trust in your Providence
No matter what happens.
May thy will be done
And may peace reign in our hearts.
May we always keep pushing forward
In our work for you and our country
Despite any obstacles.
Lord, we also pray
For the processes that will unfold after Election Day.
We pray for all those responsible for certifying and recording the election results
And for facilitating the transitions that will occur.
Give wisdom and courage
To federal, state and local officials
To carry out their duties with diligence and integrity.
Lord, today, give our nation another chance
To choose life, to preserve freedom,
And to serve your people.
Give success to the work of our hands.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
