As we read in the Gospel of Matthew, the Holy Innocents were the children slain by Herod as he tried to kill the baby Jesus. Like many who support abortion, Herod let his fears rule his actions. The Holy Innocents’ Feast Day is December 28.
God our Father,
You sent your Son into the World
To be its light and its life.
Yet from the beginning,
Darkness and death fought against him,
And the Holy Innocents were slain
Because of the fear and wrath of King Herod.
Lord, the forces of darkness,
The fears of the human heart,
And the misguided actions of people in political power
Continue to menace the children of our day.
Through the intercession of the Holy Innocents,
End the scourge of abortion in our day.
Bring hope and strength to those tempted to abort
That they may turn aside from the path of death.
Bring consolation to those who repent of their abortion.
Bring conversion to the Herods of today
Who use their political power to bring about bloodshed.
May your holy People, O God,
Always keep in mind the Holy Innocents,
Whose screams on earth
Have become songs in Heaven.
Receive to yourself all the innocent victims of abortion,
And grant your protection to every child, born and unborn.
We pray in Jesus Name, Amen.
