St. Catherine of Sweden

St. Catherine, who died in 1381, is the patron saint of women who suffer miscarriage, and is invoked for protection against both miscarriage and abortion. She lived heroically the virtue of chastity and was zealous for a life of self-sacrifice. Her Feast Day is March 22.

St. Catherine of Sweden,
You were blessed by the Lord
With a love of self-sacrifice,
And a heart focused on the Kingdom of God.

You are an example of chastity,
And even while living the vocation of marriage,
You and your husband
Dedicated yourselves to virginity.

We ask for your intercession today
Especially for young couples
Who seek to please the Lord.

Obtain for them from Jesus
A heart on fire with love for his Kingdom
And a deep reverence for the human body
And for the precious gift of human life.

Intercede also for all who have difficult pregnancies,
That their lives and those of their children
May be preserved and may flourish
To the glory of God.

Pray also for those tempted to have abortions,
That they may resist every temptation
And be filled with a generous “Yes” to life,
By the grace of Jesus the Lord. Amen.

St. Catherine of Sweden, pray for us!
